Seth Troxler - The Lab 03 (12" Sampler 02)
Perhaps one of the best and biggest underground DJs on the block right now, Seth Troxler makes a welcome addition to NRK’s The Lab compilation series, taking over the baton from Loco Dice and Steve Bug. A superb double mix album featuring over 30 cuts from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Dinky, Deniz Kurtel, Andrew Weatherall, DBX and Lawrence. This is the second vinyl sampler to come in support for the album.
First up is Daze Maxim’s “Tomorrow Universe”, a deeply delicious cut that jacks hard and repetitive with melting horns and tropical percussion and a great bassy groove and trippy vocal FX floating over the top.
One of the new breed of NYC producers get’s an inclusion in Troxler’s Lab, and the DJ Qu remix of “Wolkenreise” is a typically minimal deep house cut that is defining the sound of NY labels like Jus-Ed’s Underground Quality and Strength Music. Deep and trippy, capturing the essence of The Lab compilation.
On the flip, a remix from Lawrence (Smallville/Laid/Kompakt) who is going great guns himself right now with his Cocoon compilation and mesmerizing productions. This remix of Dntel for US label Sub-Pop is a great organic and analogue sound with a shuffling beat and spacey dark synths.
Completing the sampler is the Chaim remix of Westboy’s “S L I V A”. The BPitch Control man comes good with an ethereal sounding mix, capturing the early morning trippy vibes that have become synonomous with Troxler’s late sessions at DC10 and beyond.
